Ownership: more than 1 year

Pros: There are absolutely no pros to this product absolutely terrible.

Cons: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I have had it for over a year and within the first 6 months it started having trouble connecting and at this point I'll be lucky to have it connect long enough for me to transfer everything to a new hard drive. Absolutely the worst product I've ever had.

Very Bad Track Record with HitachiHitachi 250gb External Hard Drive

Pros: Customer Support tries to help. Agents are always willing to keep you from ruining your own day. Ironically there are no pros to the device itself.

Cons: 0 Quality Satisfaction. Product may not work out of the box. Hitachi offers REFURBISHED replacements that do not work. In fact, don't be surprised if the drive works for a while and dies out entirely. Quality is not the company's top priority. I have had Hitachi products that have faulty mini-USB contacts and others that click to death.

Overall Review: Bought a Simpletech SignatureMini that I had replaced twice due to a terrible mini-USB connection design before asking to get a different product by Hitachi to avoid getting the same issue over and over. Got the X Mobile 250GB that clicks to death immediately when you connect. I just received my replacement today and I am testing it. Already the drive disappeared from the system and tried to reconnect and disconnect by itself over and over. I have gone through 5 drives from Hitachi in the course of 3-4 years. I am done asking Hitachi for replacement drives. They just keep sending me defective units at my expense of shipping and handling. Good luck if you do purchase it.

Thanks for your post. Drives may exhibit the clicking and knocking when they don't receive enough power to operate properly. This is why the drive is supplied with the USB 'Y' cable, as many PCs cannot supply enough power from just one USB port, and our customers have asked for a bus-powered solution. There is a power supply port for the optional AC adapter to be used. Cons: It worked for 2 weeks then noise could NOT spin .I sent it back for HITACHI then received another with a same problem unless plug another USB cable into it Hope NEWEGG don't try to sale this product anymore

Hitachi External Hard Drive 1tb

Pros: Looks nice and compact

Cons: I purchased this external HDD to move data between computers and use the data in any of them. The drive only works on 2 of the 3 computers. What to do with the non-working system.

Overall Review: Hindsight: I should have just gone the external SATA route to begin with.
After many purchases from NewEgg, this is the first one that I am not satisfied with.

Ownership: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Nice Packaging & Compact Works OK for a short while.

Cons: Very weak, no resilience, will soon break down. Barely operates via USB power. Requires use of 2 usb ports. Less than %50 satisfaction rate here on Newegg proves its market acceptance.

Overall Review: Do not rely on this product to backup your valued files. Shame on Newegg for pushing their inventory of this item by reducing the price and offering free shipping. Newegg knows that this product is faulty and should return the lot back to the manufacturer who obviously abides by a low standard of quality control if any. I purchased 4 of these to use on various machines and to date 3 have failed. On average they have lasted me about 6 weeks.

Pros: Low unit cost, enough storage for most users. Easy to remove additional software that all mfgs are loading for 'added value'

Cons: none, given cost.
